Onyx Countertops

Talk to your Affinity Kitchen & Bath professional to determine if onyx is the perfect choice for you.

Onyx is breathtaking. The only other word that could be used to describe the effect of onyx in the kitchen or bath is “show-stopping.” The colors, the translucent veining, the natural sparkle…onyx is the top-of-the-line selection when it comes to natural stone surfaces. And with that unique and vivid beauty comes considerable maintenance and expense: onyx is one of the most expensive of countertop options and, because of its softness, it is prone to scratching and staining, which is why it is often used in low-traffic areas. However, the drama of onyx, especially backlit onyx, is, well, breathtaking. An onyx or onyx-accented countertop is the perfect choice for many people.

Soapstone Countertop

Do soapstone’s benefits and popularity make it the right choice for your home? Talk to your experienced Affinity Kitchen & Bath designer and explore your options!

Soapstone is a wonderful countertop surface for a variety of reasons, including its density, durability, heat tolerance, and superior resistance to stains. No sealing is required, and maintenance is minimal. Soapstone is also environmentally friendly because it is naturally quarried directly from the ground. Its durability is outstanding: there are still soapstone countertops happily in use that were quarried before the turn of the last century. And even though the color palate of soapstone is limited to earth tones that range from gray to black, the fact that soapstone countertops are available in a variety of surfaces does allow for a customized look and feel. Tough soapstone countertops can be further customized by choosing a square, radius, beveled, or bullnose edge treatment. It is likely that your soapstone counters will darken with age, a fact that should be taken into consideration by you and your design team.

Granite Countertops

Your dedicated Affinity Kitchen & Bath designer will assist you in selecting the beautiful granite countertop that will complete your dream kitchen or bath.

Nothing says luxury like a sparkling, polished granite countertop. This luminous surface makes a statement about you and your personal taste, all while adding value to your home.

Granite is a classic, elegant stone that comes in a variety of colors. The various minerals within granite are the source of its depth and character, making every granite countertop a one-of-a-kind work of art. Granite is highly durable, and resistant to heat and general wear and tear.

Marble Countertops

The professional staff at Affinity Kitchen & Bath is experienced in selecting and installing marble countertops and will help you pick the best countertop to suit your unique needs.

So many people love the look of marble in the kitchen and bath. The cool surface and the classic veining combine to make everywhere there is marble look like a work of art. Active cooks especially rave about the experience of preparing food on a marble countertop. The professional staff at Affinity Kitchen & Bath will likely steer you in the direction of Vermont Danby Marble, as opposed to the better-known Carrara varieties, because Vermont Danby is less porous than Carrara, and therefore more resistant to staining.

In addition to the wonderful aesthetic experience, heat-resistant marble is versatile: it is available in a wide variety of beautifully veined, natural colors and two distinct surface finishes, honed and polished. Marble does require consistent maintenance, true, but for people who are fortunate enough to have marble countertops, the maintenance just comes with the (lovely) territory.

Recycled Glass Countertops

Recycled glass countertops are gaining many fans for their strength, style, and eco-friendly production techniques.

Are you attracted to sustainable living design? Made primarily of recycled post-industrial and post-consumer materials, recycled glass countertops offer a very hard surface that is not unlike stone.

The most popular type of recycled glass countertop is made to look like terrazzo marble. It is composed of both post-consumer glass chips and binding agents. A recycled glass countertop will have the surface strength and feel of granite or marble.

No two recycled glass countertops are the same. Glass chips are blended by color and size to create the effect you desire. Depending on the colors and the size of the glass chips that are used, recycled glass countertops can look quite traditional—picture a tiffany-style lamp broken up and embedded in acrylic—or very contemporary.

Recycled glass countertops are

  • Resistant to mold and mildew
  • Scratch resistant (not scratch proof)—only quartz performs better
  • Stain resistant
  • Heat and scorch resistant
  • Easy to maintain with warm water and mild detergent
  • Potentially Cradle-to-Cradle Certified and<
  • Eligible for LEED points
  • Available in a large color palette and design options

As compared to other countertop materials, there is little or no destruction of the earth required to mine these materials and little or no waste or polluted water during the manufacturing process, which results in a highly durable countertop material.

The design professionals at Affinity Kitchen & Bath are experienced in assisting clients who are considering recycled glass countertops. If you’re interested in this option, you’ve come to the right place.

Butchers Block / Wood Countertops

From cherry to walnut, hickory to white oak, butcher block countertops offer a beautiful option for your countertop needs.

Butcher block countertops feature a number of handsome varieties of wood from which to choose, and the lively patterns, natural colors, and meticulous craftsmanship of today’s butcher block countertops complement virtually every décor.

Butcher block is an environmentally friendly countertop option, and is so easy to maintain after installation with regular applications of food-grade mineral oil, which is available at any pharmacy or hardware store.

If butcher block is not already high on your list of design options, let the experienced professionals at Affinity Kitchen & Bath show you why butcher block countertops are an increasingly popular focal point in modern kitchen design.

Metal Surface Countertops

Metal countertops are available with splashes of color and copper can be treated to produce color shades that rival even the most dramatic granite color variations.

Stainless steel, long used commercial kitchens, may be your first thought for metal countertops. While stainless steel is popular because it is so easily cleaned, almost impossible to stain, and indifferent to water and spills, there are many other metal-fabricated countertops to consider.

Not only do you have a dynamic choice of metals but many choices in finishes as well. Another nice feature of metal is that it’s non-porous, with good hygienic qualities. Most metal countertops are heat-proof and will take a hot pan better than a laminate or solid surface.

There are several different types of metal that are used to fashion kitchen countertops.

Stainless Steel

A stainless steel countertop doesn’t have to have a monochromatic look. Today’s stainless steel countertops can feature different brush finishes that add a whole new twist to the look of stainless, resulting in a visual dimension to what can sometimes be a completely uniform surface. These types of finishes also help mask everyday use, since any scratches tend to get muted by the “micro-scratches” of the patterned finish.

Copper

Copper will develop a reddish-brown patina as it ages. You can maintain a uniform color if you apply a wax or sealer, which fabricators often apply during manufacture.

Pewter

A pewter countertop offers a sophisticated alternative to the slightly more clinical look of stainless steel. Pewter’s silvery color is muted somewhat in that it’s not as bright as chrome; rather, it has a more matte appearance. Pewter’s softness also has an upside because the metal is easily shaped and stamped, allowing artistic designs to be incorporated into the surface. Pewter is a more traditional look, and a pewter countertop provides an arresting focal point in an eclectic kitchen.

Zinc

Zinc countertops are perfect for people who wish to really differentiate their style. Much warmer than stainless steel, zinc has an attractive whitish to silvery-gray appearance when “new,” but develops a darkened blue-gray patina over time. If you prefer to keep the initial look, you can apply a beeswax coating periodically.

The professional design team at Affinity Kitchen & Bath has experience working with stainless steel, pewter, zinc, and the entire range of metal countertop options. We would be happy to share our expertise with you, helping you select the new countertop that is just right for you, your home, and your lifestyle.

Quartz Countertops

Talk with an experienced Affinity Kitchen & Bath designer and feel confident that the countertop you choose will fit your taste and lifestyle.

Lustrous quartz countertops have the same durability as granite. The manufactured quartz process allows a much wider range of solid colors and consistent patterns than you’ll find in either marble or granite.

Because quartz is non-porous, it resists staining much better than granite, marble, or concrete. This attractive material is hygienic and resistant to scratching. Quartz also doesn’t need to be sealed or waxed. All you need for cleanup is warm soapy water. You will always be confident that you are getting your quartz countertop absolutely clean, and that’s a great benefit in both the kitchen and the bath.
